You can’t choose your family - right?
Wrong.
What does it mean to be family? You share DNA? You’re biologically related to someone? I have family I literally haven't talked to in 10 years. Sure, they are my biological ‘family’ but are they my people? My confidants? My FAMILY? I don’t think so. In fact, some of those people have hurt me so deeply, it’s amazing that I trust people at all. But that’s for an Oprah special, not today’s blog.
To me, family means so much more. Let’s redefine it.
Family is there for you at your worst. Family replies…quickly. Family doesn't judge. Well, maybe they do but it comes from a place of love. Family is honest, sometimes to a fault but again, it’s coming from a good place. They will check and correct you but won’t ever hold your wrongdoings against you. They may not always like you but the love never stops. Family loves, cares, and understands you - flaws in all.
You can be your true self, unapologetically. That’s an incredibly liberating feeling. Just to be you. Do you have people in your life where you feel at ease? Who do you have in your life that meets this definition of family?
Maybe you have biological family members that meet these criteria. I have many that do and many that don’t. I also have a special group of friends that I consider family.
People often ask me, ‘are you guys really sisters’ - I giggle and say were are work sisters. I often then get a look like ‘oh like sister-wives?’… Again, maybe that’s for another Oprah special.
OUR definition of family is described above. We aren’t related but we are there for each other, honestly, openly, and unapologetically.
We created this brand on the basis of our strong family bond. No, we aren’t related (and aren’t sister-wives). We’re a bonded group of women who love, trust, and respect each other. I’m sure you have women in your life that you feel this way about. Maybe it’s your biological sister, mother, or a close friend, or colleague. Who do you call when you just need to vent? Who do you text when you’ve just received amazing news?
So in the spirit of family, we’d like to invite you to join ours. Come to our site, comment, be open, and honest. We want to hear from you and get to know you better. Our goal is to create a safe and fun environment for women to share their dreams, ideas, and vent when needed and we are there to support each other. We’d love your help building this community. Leave your email below and we will add you to our family list with exclusive offers for family only :)
